The Importance of Fire Protection

fire blogFires are detrimental and life-threatening. When a fire starts in your home, your family members and all of your possessions are put at risk. A fire at the office jeopardizes the safety of employees, important documents and the location of your business. We know that fires are serious, but how often do they occur?

Fires by the Numbers

No one expects this disaster to happen to them, but the statistics speak for themselves. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), there were approximately 1,298,000 fires reported across the United States in 2014. Fires cause property damage, personal injury and potentially death. However, with an effective sprinkler installed, home and business owners have an 80 percent chance of surviving and a 97 percent of reducing overall damage.

How Do Sprinklers Work?

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), it can take less than three seconds for a minor flame to become a full-fledged fire. A sprinkler system will sense the flames and activate in under a minute, before the local fire department arrives. With most systems, the sprinklers do not go off all at once. The sprinkler head closest to the fire will activate and, in 90 percent of cases, is able to tame the fire on its own.
